How To Prepare (or Not Prepare) Your Modeling Resume

How To Prepare (or Not Prepare) Your Modeling ResumeHow To Prepare (or Not Prepare) Your Modeling ResumeIf you are a new model and havent booked any modeling jobs you are most likely struggling with how to create a modeling resume. What exactly should you put on your modeling resume and what are the agents and clients looking for? When you apply for a job outside of the modeling industry you are expected to have a resume. A resume typically lists your education, skills, experiences, accomplishments, and job-related interests in order to impress a eignung employer and show them youre the right person for the job. A lot of people typically use schablones they find online and cut and paste their information into them. I did a little research and to my surprise there were numerous web sites showing examples of how to set up and write modeling resumes. The sites went into great detail about what information a model should put on their resume and some were even selling templates that model s could purchase and just fill in their own information. Really? You see heres the thing - there is no such thing as a modeling resume and you dont need one - EVER Did I just hear a collective sigh of relief I have worked as a model agent and scout for 30 years and I have never asked a model for their modeling resume. I have never prepared one for any of my models, nor have I ever been asked by any of the hundreds of modeling agencies I work with every day to provide them with a modeling resume for a model I was promoting. So, if someone is trying to sell you a template for a modeling resume you can save your money. Modeling Agencies - 6 Big Reasons You Need One How to Get One In the modeling business a models photos are her resume. Rather than listing experience, training and other stats on a piece of paper, a models photos will show potential agencies and clients all they need to know about hiring that particular model. The photos may be of actual work the model has done these a re called tearsheets, or they can be photos that the model has taken by a photographer on her own behalf these are called tests. Even if a model doesnt have professional photos, snapshots are acceptable to show to the agents and scouts and even clients. Modeling Portfolios - Do You Need Professional Photos or Will Snapshots Do? In order to present her resume, or in this case photos, to potential agents, scouts and clients a model may post her photos on an online model scouting site or print several hundred composite cards. A composite card is a selection of five or six of the models best photos that are printed on a card which includes the models name, stats, agency representation and contact information. Professional models will often do both. The only time a model may need a resume is if he or she is also an actor. Actors do use and submit resumes to agents, casting directors and clients when applying for acting jobs. Having said that, it is not customary for models who are repre sented by modeling agencies to use an acting resume even if they are applying for an acting job when their primary status is model. So, dont stress about modeling resumes - agents and clients dont want them and models dont need them. Models always let their pictures do the talking.

Too Busy to Monitor Your Employer Brand Health Heres A 3-Step Audit

Too Busy to Monitor Your Employer Brand Health Heres A 3-Step AuditToo Busy to Monitor Your Employer Brand Health Heres A 3-Step AuditA healthy employer brand directly leads to better hires, which leads to increased productivity, better employee morale and lowered training and recruiting costs. However, many human resources leaders get lost in other priorities and fail to monitor and track their employer brand. They approve changes to the companys digital presence without considering whether or bedrngnis those changes might attract or repel qualified job candidates. Over time this can lead to a web presence that negatively affects your employer brand without intending to do so.Its important to do a frequent employer brand health audit to make sure your branding sends the correct message to prospective candidates. The first place to start is with the digital appearance of your company, including your overall website, careers page and mobile presentation. Heres a look at how you can im prove these brand assets to create a positive brand impression and attract more active and passive job candidates. Is your website optimized for job seekers? In an increasingly digital job hunt environment, candidates look to your website first to give them a feel for how your company treats its employees. You know that prospective employees will spend time on your website researching your company for their interview, so make sure that the website makes good use of their time. What information do you want them to have? What would you like them to ask questions about? Include possible conversation points such as recent press mentions, awards, acquisitions and goals to give prospective employees a full package of information.Do your career pages offer enough information? Dont just list your job listings and call it a day. Use the careers page space to offer honest and accurate insight into your company culture. The goal is not to create a perfect presentation of the perfect company. Th e goal is to represent your company authentically so as to draw in the candidate who offers the best fit. If you present a perfect picture of a company that doesnt exist, the candidate you recruit will be perfect for the company that doesnt exist, too. Dont exaggerate or make promises you dont intend to fill, or it will reflect poorly on you when the candidate comes in for an interview or accepts the position.Include photos of employees working and enjoying themselves, and keep the photos updated. If possible, include a photo feed or company hashtag that includes monthly or quarterly updates direct from employees. Also include details that will tell the powerful background story of your company and how it grew to be what it is. Added details such as historical infographics, team biographies and detailed benefits will all help to build a clear vision of what your company is about and who is the best fit for it.Does mobile matter for your job seekers? How prospective employees reach yo ur website is also very important. Look at your website analytics to determine the source of your traffic. Are your careers pages viewed mostly from mobile, tablet or desktop? Are they visiting your careers page and dropping off your website entirely, or are they continuing to click through to the rest of your web pages? The answers to these questions will help you determine what information to include on each page and how to display it for the best possible candidate experience. For example, consider your industry and the position for which you are hiring. If you find that a significant percentage of your traffic to a particular job listing arrives via mobile but then drops off, it is very important to assess the page for its mobile accessibility and, if necessary, redesign the page to be more accessible. If you find that a significant portion of your traffic for some job openings is from mobile but for other job pages the traffic is 100 percent desktop or tablet, it may indicate th at the former pages are not accessible from a mobile device, and you are missing out on traffic. As a hiring manager, you have a lot on your plate. However, taking care of your employer brand health can lead to more effective long-term hiring results. Auditing your employer brand health can reveal useful information that can help you create a more accurate and compelling view of your company through your website and mobile engagement.

Tips for Attending a Startup Job Fair

Tips for Attending a Startup Job FairTips for Attending a Startup Job FairWhen you go to a traditional job fair, business attire is in order. If you attend a startup job fair like UNCUBED, you dont need to wear a suit and tie. A better choice for what to wear is startup casual attire. At fruchtwein job fairs, you will meet with professional recruiters. At a start up job fair, you may get to meet with the company founder and you might even have the opportunity to pitch your ideas. Attending a fair or networking event is an ideal strategy for getting a job at a startup. Youll find a more casual environment, with music, drinks, games, and networking and youll have the opportunity to check out and be checked out by lots of different companies. If you a startup in mind youd love to work for, its an optimal time to connect. Its just as important to prepare for a startup job fair though, as it is for a more mainstream hiring event. Your preparation needs to be a bit different. Your social p resence needs to be topnotch. You need to check out the companies in advance, so you know what they are working on and to be ready for a conversation. As with any career event, you need to come ready to make the best impression on everyone you meet. Here are tips for job seekers going to a startup job fair from Tarek Pertew, co-founder and chief creative officer of Uncubed. Read Up Theres a good chance that most of the companies are new to you. Building up your general awareness about tech and digital companies will pay off. Consider the big boys, like Mashable, TechCrunch, andInc. Also sign up for publications like Garys Guide, a list of startup events/meetups, and Uncubed Daily, which includes startup trends, news, and tech career advice. Get Social Youll need a social network presence if you dont have one already. Chances are, youre already on Facebook. You should also be active on one or more of Twitter, Google, Tumblr, Instagram, and Pinterest. Include behauptung handle s on your resume and, better yet, link to them from your website. The company thats going to hire you will want to see that youre part of this space. If you need to play catch up here, its not hard to do - a few tweets a day adds up. You should also follow the companies youll be talking to - theres no better source for news particular to them or understanding their culture. Dress Down Not Up It may say business casual on the invite, but double down on the casual. These companies dont wear suits and rarely sports coats, so you shouldnt either. That said, you should still be put together. So while the expectations are different here, the old rule about first impressions is still in good standing. Be neat, have your hygiene in order and be up-to-date. Think Beyond the Resume Resumes may still be the going currency for job experience, but theyre a lot less important to this crowd. Programmers and designers are better served by linking to their Github or Behance account, or by ca lling out their past projects that are still on the web. For everyone else make a website that shows who you are, what your background is and where youre interests lie. Itdoesnt have to be elaborate, and sites like Tumblr and Wordpress make this extra easy to do. Bring Ideas Its not infrequent that youll be talking with a key person from the company, maybe even the founder. There are few better ways to stand out than to suggest a good idea for their business. Its safer to assume theyve thought of it, which they probably have (after all, theyre likely spending most of their waking hours consumed by their business). But theyll know a good idea when they hear it - and that alone will leave a valuable impression. Make Friends (And Get Business Cards) Youll be surrounded by people looking for their next startup gig or looking to break-in to the space for the first time. Be prepared with an elevator pitch, so that you can give a quick synopsis of your skills and qualifications. C onnect with as many as possible, so you can stay in touch and compare notes. Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn make that simple. To make it even easier, make a basic card with your email, cell phone, and social network handles. These connections could very well be a future access point to an opportunity of a lifetime. Dont Be Intimidated These are companies like any other. Just smaller, fresher, and with a different approach to culture. Be confident in your skill sets and make sure they know how hard youll work for them. Startups love reliability and hustle. Have Fun Events like these are designed to be fun, so take advantage of it. If theres music, get into it. If theres a happy hour attached, go to it and be sure to test out all the products these startups make. Its a lot better than just passing out resumes.
